Dentures and Partials

dentureA denture is a removable dental appliance that our dentists will use to fill the spaces left by missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Dentures, when used, are an important part of keeping the teeth and mouth fully functional when one or more teeth are missing.

There are two types of dentures – complete and partial.  Complete dentures are for patients who are missing all their teeth, while partial dentures will only replace missing teeth.  When missing teeth, partial dentures play an important role in preventing other teeth from shifting position in the mouth.

Partial dentures usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored base. Your partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or more natural-looking connectors.  In some cases, a partial denture may be made to attach to your natural teeth with precision attachments, which create a more aesthetic appearance. Please consult with our dentist to determine which type of partial denture is the best option for you.

If you are receiving a full or partial denture, please follow all instructions providing by our dentist. Following these instructions will help you wear your dentures correctly and prevent your dentures from breaking or other complications.

Typically, our patients receive dentures for the following reasons:

• Complete loss of all teeth in an arch.
• Partial loss of teeth in an arch.
• Enhancing smile and facial tissues.
• Improving chewing, speech and digestion.
